Capabilities: Impact Assessment and Environmental Management

Environment North has been a preferred supplier of environmental services to the Queensland Government and private proponents for nearly 20 years. We have been providing impact assessment and environmental management services for:

  • linear infrastructure projects
  • dredging and associated spoil disposal assessments
  • large scale aquaculture facilities
  • urban developments
  • government infrastructure
  • integrated tourism developments
  • the resources industry.

Our work usually incorporates expertise from specialists in a number of fields and includes assessments of environmental values in areas ranging from complex rainforest in world heritage areas, through grassed savanna and dry sclerophyll woodlands, to disturbed agricultural landscapes. We have extensive experience in the determination of impacts in a wide range of industries and developments and providing real world solutions to avoid, minimise, mitigate, and if necessary, offset environmental impacts.

We have recent expertise in developing net-benefit solutions for the $8.15 billion Aquis Resort at Yorkeys Knob, Cairns. This is the largest non-resource project in Australia and Environment North Principal David Rivett was the Environment Team lead and major author of the EIS. Environment North also prepared detailed reports on Airport and Aircraft Issues as well as Hazards and Safety, the EPBC Act referral, and a detailed report on matters of national environmental significance.

David has just completed a commission as  Environment Team lead (terrestrial) for the Cairns Shipping Development Project Revised Draft EIS. This was a new EIS (required following the decision by the Commonwealth Government to prohibit sea dumping in the GBRMP) designed to document impacts of terrestrial placement of dredge spoil. Environment North also prepared detailed papers on Climate Change and Greenhouse Gases, Hazard and Risk, and Cumulative Impacts Assessment.
