Capabilities: Negotiating, Obtaining and Managing Statutory Approvals

We have the technical capability to provide clients with accurate advice on, and assistance with, the statutory approval process involving state and commonwealth legislation. Our comprehensive experience in writing and assessing applications has been gained in regulatory government departments and through assisting private industry. When necessary, we are adept at negotiating realistic conditions that provide for environment protection and sustainable development and we have the reputation for a balanced approach.

We have experience in the preparation, submission, and negotiation of the following:

  • project referrals and approvals under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act,
  • rezoning and permits under the Wet Tropics Management Plan for works in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area,
  • assessment of coordinated projects under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act,
  • Material Change of Use for Environmentally Relevant Activities,
  • applications under key environmental legislation including the Nature Conservation Act, Fisheries Act, Water Act, Wild Rivers Act, and Vegetation Management Act, and
  • approvals under local government Planning Schemes.

Once an approval has been granted we can provide assistance with the incorporation of these requirements into a client’s existing environmental management system though practical, cost-effective measures.
