Summary

Environment North managed all biodiversity and recreational planning inputs into the Master Plan for a proposed industrial and business development on a 200 ha greenfield site in Cairns’ southern corridor. This included the preparation of a Creek Corridor Management Plan for a disturbed but ecologically important Creek that flows through the proposed site.

We also managed the Cairns-based consultant team and assisted with the detailed Development Approval application and Information Request Response to the Cairns Regional Council and state regulatory agencies.

Between 2009 and 2012 we assisted PFI with its Planning and Environment Court appeal, co-authoring a Joint Experts' Report on some biodiversity and environmental planning appeal issues.

Following the granting of major approvals in late 2012, Environment North was commissioned to prepare the comprehensive Blackfellows Creek Management Plan to guide development in the Blackfellows Creek corridor. This involved the development of six Management Systems covering drainage and flooding, riparian vegetation and habitat, in-stream vegetation and habitat, water quality, landscape and interpretation, and recreation.
