Decision Support Framework for Coal Seam Gas, Southern Queensland

Origin Energy

Summary

Environment North worked with Origin Energy to develop the company's Decision Support Framework. This involved developing ways of using environmental and other information required by the EIS process to help plan coal seam gas (CSG) infrastructure. Initial applications included constraints analysis and masterplanning for major CSG infrastructure on land bought by the company for the purpose, and a major constraints analysis project for locating linear and point infrastructure across the whole gas field. This work involved developing comprehensive decision rules for application by Origin Energy's sophisticated in-house GIS capabilities. The process helped ensure that the project infrastructure is located in the best possible locations, having regard to competing interests (social, environmental, technical performance, and profitability).

Innovation/Distinguishing Features

Large resources project that integrated environmental information into commercial decisions to optimise project performance and integrity.
